Whether you’re a professional painter and decorator or a DIYer, it’s only right that you want the end product to be faultless.
Whilst you could use conventional methods, such as paintbrushes and rollers, they don’t always give you that smooth finish you’re after.
Wondering what you can do to ensure you’re not left with brush strokes on the surface? The answer is simple – use a paint sprayer.
Here the UK’s leading supplier of surface finishing equipment, Surface Finishing Equipment (SFEG), explains what paint sprayers are and why you should consider using them.
What is a paint sprayer?
Exactly as its name implies, a paint sprayer is a powerful tool used to spray paint onto a variety of surfaces – covering large areas such as walls and garden sheds, as well as detailed areas like moulding on a photo frame.
There are two main types of sprayers:
- HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray guns
- Airless spray guns
HVLP paint sprayers pump high volumes of air to produce a mist of spray that can be propelled at low pressure through a narrow nozzle. This ensures even coverage on the first coat and results in less wastage.
HVLP spray guns are ideal for furniture staining, cabinet painting, trims and any other applications where a smooth finish is required.
An airless paint spray pump, on the other hand, has a piston that pressurises the paint, pushing it through the nozzle.
These sprayers are much better suited to larger jobs, as they can easily attach to a paint tin or container – covering a greater surface area in less time and with fewer refills.
Why should you use a paint sprayer for your next job?
A paint sprayer is one of the best ways to achieve paint perfection. But there are a number of other reasons why you should choose one for your next project.
These include:
1. Speed
When compared to a brush or roller, a paint sprayer allows you to apply a coating of paint much faster – meaning you’ll get the job done sooner. It provides an even coat on the surface being painted, saving both time and money on touch-ups.
2. Versatility
Getting into the corners can be tricky with a roller brush, and a regular paintbrush often leaves a messy finish. Not just great for larger areas, a paint sprayer emits small particles of paint through a nozzle, making it easier for you to paint every nook and cranny.
3. Quality
Conventional painting methods may work out to be cheaper, but they don’t give you that perfectly smooth finish like a paint sprayer does. With a paint spray gun, a fine mist of paint is propelled at the surface via the nozzle, evenly coating the surface it comes into contact with.
4. Simplicity
Paintbrushes and rollers often require a lot of prep work and can cause repetitive strain injuries – particularly in the arms and back muscles. This is not the case with a paint sprayer, as all you need to do is attach the paint to the system and begin spraying.
